Announcement from premier John Brumby on tendering for Melbourne's train and tram services. This was to be known as the MR3 franchise - MR1 was 1999 and MR2 was 2004 after the collapse of MR1.
There was widespread dissatisfaction with existing operators (notably Connex) with both losing to new franchisees in this round. The new franchises started in 2009.
