While there were some smaller bus uplifts in 2002, the 2005 state budget, delivered today, is when the state government got serious about improved bus services. $44m of new funding for bus services included new SmartBus routes, added local route coverage and service upgrades on existing routes.
It led to Meeting our Transport Challenges in the following year. This included an ambitious program of minimum service standards upgrades as well as SmartBus routes on selected major corridors.
